The Burnaby Pub & Restaurant, located in the heart of Greystones, is a popular hospitality venue known for its strong community presence and commitment to quality service. Led by owner John Byrne who was recently appointed Vice Chair of the Licensed Vintners Association (LVA). The business has taken bold steps to improve its environmental impact through smarter waste practices.

The Challenge

Like many hospitality businesses, The Burnaby initially faced common barriers such as an overreliance on General Waste bins, low staff awareness around Organic Waste, and inconsistent signage. Recognising the opportunity for positive change, they partnered with KeyGreen to implement targeted solutions aimed at reducing waste volumes, improving compliance, and boosting sustainability performance.

The Solutions

• 22% diversion of General Waste to Organic Waste, improving compliance and reducing disposal costs.
• 99% increase in Organic Waste, despite increased volume and footfall.
