Why is rodent control important?
Rodents are most definitely unwanted visitors and can cause serious health risks, financial losses and damage your brand’s reputation if they become a problem.
Building hazards – Rodents love to gnaw and chew on construction materials, including pipes, cables, wood and even metal. This can cause issues such as flooding, power outages, and fires.
Health hazards – Rats can transmit diseases, some of which can be fatal. Rat urine and faeces transmit diseases such as Hantavirus, Salmonellosis and in the case of rats Weil’s disease (Leptospirosis), as well as Rat bite fever.
How to avoid a rodent infestation
Keep your premises clean – Rodents love a mess! Regularly cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and floors, along with keeping food stored correctly can help prevent rodents.
Fill in holes and cracks – It’s vitally important to seal any potential entry points where rats or mice could enter your premises. As rodents can fit through tiny holes and gaps, you need to fill any that you can see.
Where are you most likely to find rodents?
Rodents , just like humans , need food, shelter and water. Food is generally the most important thing a rodent will look for in a building, so you can find them anywhere there’s food. They also like to be warm (hence them coming into your premises), so areas around pipes that are dark are also hotspots.
